Library books are due on Thursdays. How can I help my child read better? First, and foremost, have your child practice reading books at his/her level every day for at least 15 minutes. Help your child learn phonics and high frequency words. Practice fluency by timing your child for one minute and counting the number of words read. Speak with Mrs. Gorospe about specific concerns you have. She will be able to provide additional suggestions. What time are students dismissed on PLC Mondays & minimum days? Students are dismissed at 1:57 every Monday and on any designated minimum days. What is LifeSkills Friday and how does my child earn it? LifeSkills Friday (for 20 minutes before the end of every Friday) is a privilege earned by students for 1) completing & turning in all homework on time, 2) completing required class work, and 3) having positive behavior during the week (pulling no more than 2 orange circles for the week). LifeSkills Friday is typically done as a grade level so students choose one of two activities to participate in. Can I volunteer in the classroom? Absolutely! Let Mrs. Gorospe know when you are available. She always has things you can help with whether it's with students or with paper work. What field trips will my child go on this year? Second grade typically visits the Folsom Zoo, Nimbus Fish Hatchery, Fresh Choice, Sutter Roseville Hospital, and Bel Air. Look for notices and permission slips to come home. The first field trip will be in the fall to Folsom Zoo & the Hatchery. Can I bring cupcakes or other goodies for my child's birthday celebration? Yes! Send them in the morning. Be sure to provide any napkins, plates, cups, and/or forks. |
