Grading

Projects will be assessed by looking at these five areas:

1) Ability to follow directions (Does the project show what was talked about in class?)

2) Preparation and preliminary work (Did the student plan well and follow the steps to do
the project?)

3) Design, craftsmanship, attention to detail (Was the work done neatly and carefully?)

4) Creativity, Originality, Quality, Imagination, Individuality, and Expression (Does the project look great?
Is it the student’s own work?)

5) Use of higher-order thinking skills/problem-solving ability (Organizing and finishing the project; the
amount of detail put into the project)

Grades for report cards will include classroom behavior, effort, and participation. Students are expected
to follow the same rules in the art room as they do in their classroom. Conduct grades will be included
in the student’s overall grade in art.

Students’ grades may fluctuate in art class as they are introduced to new materials or techniques. If you
have questions regarding grades or projects, please contact me or send a note to the office.
