Superhero Project

Superheroes

NAME____________________________________ CLASS NUMBER________

Super Hero Project

PURPOSE: Students will use spoken, written, and visual language to communicate the significance of
heroes in our lives. A variety of resources will be used to create a superhero.
To begin the project, students will work in groups of two (2) to develop a list of their own heroes
and their characteristics.
Next each group will categorize their lists of heroes in ways that make sense (super heroes, local
heroes, disaster heroes, etc.) assigning at least five characteristics that put those heroes in that
specific category.

By: October 20 (Thursday)
In groups of two (2), students will create a new superhero. To begin students will brainstorm a
list of questions with detailed answers to help define this character. They will consult with each other,
the internet, books, adults, and other resources. This list of questions and answers should be neatly
written in cursive, or typed. At least five (5) new questions should be added to the list below.
Important questions MUST include:
What is your heros first, middle, and last name?
What is the heros nickname?
When and where was your hero born? In what time frame?
Describe the circumstances of your heros birth.
What are the core values or religious beliefs of your hero?
What level of education does your hero have?
Describe some treasure your character possesses.
Recall a traumatic event in your heros early life.
Describe something your hero makes with his/her hands.
What is his/her favorite music? Does he/she play a musical instrument?
Conduct a survey of at least twenty (20) adults and students (not in our middle school). Ask them two
things: (1) Who is your hero? and, (2) What makes that person a hero? Summarize your findings by
first typing the data on the table created in computer lab. Next create a small poster (not the foam
board style), summarizing your findings. Small, means 11 inches x 14 inches, half of a regular sized
poster board.

By: December 12 (Monday)
Use word processing or handwrite a ten (10) day diary of your heros activities. Write as the
character about the activity(ies) that makes him/her a superhero. Include in the diary:
Sketches or doodles that the character might make as the diary is being written.
Dont overdo the doodles.
A coat of arms that represents the heros characteristics.
A poem from your characters point of view about his/her activities.
An acrostic poem using your characters full name.
A minimum of three (3) original drawings=photographs of your character (not downloaded).
Menu of your characters favorite meal.
Design an attractive cover for your diary (not a folder, report folder, or a bunch of paper stapled
together or hooked with rings).

***Suggestion: Group should write out the draft of the diary together. One person should type it.

By: January 31 (Tuesday)
Make a colorful comic book of at least ten pages (fronts only) depicting your superhero in action.
Use only colored pencils to color the panels. Make sure that all text is legible. A blank book will be
given to each group in class.
***Suggestion: Use a real comic book as a guide for ideas and layouts.
