           Middle School Spanish  2011-12

 Objetivos (Objectives)

1. Make your best effort at all times, demonstrate it through your attitude. Participation counts for 40% of your grade, written work counts 35%, and test/quizzes count 25%.

 2. Ask questions when you don’t understand something. Chances are that if you don’t understand, then other classmates also have questions.  If you are confused, don't wait until it is too late! Always go to Señorita Brown with any questions….she’s happy to help.

 3. Open your mind to accept that a foreign language is different and sometimes can be a little confusing. Make the decision to study, memorize, and practice the language…it can be fun!

 4. Realize that you are very blessed to have a strong Spanish program at this school. Speaking a second language can serve you in the future in many ways.

 Reglas (Rules)

 1. Come to class prepared. All work is to be printed in blue or black pen, and in-class  corrections done in red ink. Always include the date in Spanish.  Title your written work  “Español.”  Many homework assignments will be translated/written out in your cuaderno.

 2. During class if you are off-task, you will be warned and if the behavior continues you will be given a deficiency (and possibly assigned tarea especial. )

 3. Ask permission before getting up and moving around during class.  Bathroom visits or water breaks are better done before/after class. If you need to go, ask permission in Spanish!

 4. Turn in assigned work on the day it is due. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to see the Assignment Log on your first day back in class and pick up/see the work you missed.  Always check in with Stra. Brown when you have been absent.

 5.  Written homework assignments, notes, new vocabulary and grammar lessons from class are to be kept in a Spanish notebook (cuaderno), which she will review and grade.

 6. It is unacceptable to use an online translation program to translate your English work into Spanish.  For looking up single words, an online dictionary, or standard Spanish/English dictionary is fine. Hopefully, you will invest in your own pocket dictionary to use in completing your written work!  For an online dictionary try: www.wordreference.com.

 7. All students get to to take turns as the weekly helper (ayudante) to lead prayer in Spanish and assist Señorita Brown with general classroom tasks.
