Is make-up work given if we go on vacation?

The School is under no obligation to provide make-up work or testing 
for "recreational" time off. (handbook, p17)

What constitutes an 'excused' tardy?

In order for a tardy to be 'excused,' the student must bring a written note 
from the physician or dentist.  The only exceptions to this would be when 
the administration finds reason to issue an excused tardy. (handbook, p6)

Who is excused from the use of a belt as part of the uniform?

Students in Grs. TK, K and 1 are excused due to the difficulty they have in 
the bathroom with belts.

How long must my child stay home if they have a fever?

For the health of all other students, the School asks that you keep your 
child home from School for a 'fever free' period of 24 hours before 
returning to School.

Must you be Catholic to attend St. Luke's CES?

We are open to all students.  We have a priority of accepting Parishioners 
of St. Luke's Parish first, siblings of current students and other Catholic 
children outside the parishsecond, and then non-Catholic applicants.

Is the tuition the same for all students?

Students who attend St. Luke's Church and use the Offertory envelope as well 
as students from other Catholic Diocesan parishes whose Pastor signs that 
they are faithful and committed to Mass attendance have a lower tuition.

Do you have a counselor available?

The school employs a part time counselor. Students may be refered tot eh 
counselor by parents, teachers or self.  Students may be seen one time by 
the counselor without written permission of the parents. On-going sessions 
will not be provided for students/families.

How does one apply for admission?

If you are interested in your child attending St. Luke's CES, please stop by 
the School Office and pick up an application.  Once the completed 
application is received, the Principal will call you for an appointment and 
testing session for your child.

Why does my child need to be tested. What is the test?

All students are tested with either the Briggance Test of Readiness (TK and 
K) or the end of the year math and reading state standards tests for all 
students complete in May. The purpose of testing is to ensure the comfort 
level for incoming students, identify any skill areas that need remediation 
and give the teachers a baseline of expectation of ability.

Do the students have homework each night?

Assignments are given to reinforce study habits for the student. Homework is 
given most nights. Please see the handbook, p17, for suggested amounts.

Do you teach languages?

St. Luke's offers a weekly class for each grade level of a Spanish 
Overview.  It is not a conversational nor academic language class.  It 
teaches many geographic, social history and cultural informations about the 
broad range of Hispanic peoples.  In addition, rudimentary language skills 
are taught.  Most students can conjugate verbs, speak simple sentences, read 
advertisements in Spanish and sing common songs by 8th Grade. In addition, 
the Italian Cultural Club of Stockton offers a weekly after school Italian 
Language class for children on campus.

Do you have PE?

All students have PE. We have a PE teacher who provides a broad curriculum 
of physical interactions with our students. Grades 5-8 have daily sessions.  
The primary classes have varying schedules.  The TK and K classes have a 
weekly psycho-motor skills development class with an additional instructor.

Do you wear a uniform?

The School has a set uniform.  Please see the Handbook, ps. 29-31.

What are the parental obligations?

The parents are expected to support the School teachers and administration, 
be timely in their tuition payments, complete 40 hours of participation and 
use Scrip.  In addition there is one mandatory fundraiser (Mustang Matrix 
Raffle) that all families must complete.
