Welcome

Welcome to the 6th grade. I look forward to another great year at St. Michael School and getting to know each of you.

My goals

  • Create a safe and caring classroom where students can flourish and grow as responsible, ethical and productive citizens
  • Captivate the students’ intellect and stimulate their curiosity
  • Help students become familiar with the Middle School program

Communication

Folders will be sent home on Monday afternoon. Please watch for the folder and sign and returns those papers/forms which need attention. This is where you will find a notice of missing assignments, current grades, corrected homework and tests, and news about what is going on in our classroom. For additional classroom information visit this website. I welcome and encourage communication. You may leave a message at the school office or email me. I do not check my email during the school day, but will check it in the evening and get back to you.

Homework

Students will have approximately one and one half hour of homework each night. (Monday thru Thursday) There will be monthly long term assignments i.e. book report, essay or other project that may require some work over the weekend, if the student does not manage his/her time wisely. Students should note assignments and due dates in their agenda each day.

Reading

Students should read nightly and complete their monthly reading log. Parents, please sign off on the log and ask your child some questions about the books they read during the month. Please be sure to add up the minutes read and record the total in the box provided. Students should also have an appropriate book at school each day for SSR (sustained silent reading).

Special Talents

If you have any special talents you would like to share with the class i.e. teach an art lesson, conduct a science experiment, or share a cultural holiday, please let me know.

Personal request

I would be personally grateful if you would have your children refrain from wearing any perfume, cologne or other scented products to school, as I have an allergy to scents. I am also allergic to flowers, so please no flowers in the classroom. I really appreciate your help in this matter, so that I can remain healthy and not miss school.

Sincerely,

Kathy Weber
