First Grade Friends February 6-10, 2012, 2012 Volume 23

Dear Families,

Catholic Schools Week was wonderful. The Mass last Wednesday was absolutely beautiful. To see
almost 1,000 children in the Bishop gym singing praises to the Lord truly touched my heart. Thank you
parents, for coming for lunch and on Open House on Friday. The children did a great job with their
song! They were so proud to show you their room. Thank you for the love you show your child every
day and for making a commitment to the spiritual education by sending them to a Catholic School.

We are reading the last story in our Surprises book this week, “Red Eyed Tree Frog”. This is a non-
fiction story, always a favorite with the children. Thank you for reading to your child every day. The
children should be reading to you too! Reading is our most important homework!

On Friday, February 10, we will celebrate 100 days of school. Each first grader is asked to bring 100
things to share with their classmates. We will pass these out and they will not be returned to you. Small
candies, marbles, pencil top erasers, pretzels, pennies, nickels, stickers, or teddy grahams, are some
things children have brought in the past. We will be doing lots of activities with the number 100,
counting to 100 by twos, fives, and tens, making 100 inch-long “Snakes”, and sharing our 100 things
with our classmates, are some activities planned for Friday.

Our Valentine’s Day party will be Monday, February 14. Please make sure to send a Valentine for every
child in our class. Watch our classroom door for the party sign-up sheet.

Aloha!
The St. Raphael School auction is coming soon! The date is February 25 at Fess Parker’s Doubletree
Hotel. This is always such a fun evening. I hope to see you there! Thank you to Lynette Naour,
Stephanie Carty, and Gabriela Dodson for their help with our fantastic painting. I think it is one of the
best auction projects in years! I hope to have our projects be on display next week. Please stop by to
see them. Thank you, dear parents, for all the work you do to support our school. The auction is our
biggest fundraiser and everyone’s help is needed to make it a success.

Yours in Christ,

Margaret Allard
