My name is Kay McGarry and I teach art in all grades at Stella Maris Academy,
as well as coordinating the volunteer art literacy program.
I hold both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in Art Education.
My husband John and I live in La Jolla with our two children, Lauren and
Conrad, and our dog Rocky. Lauren is studying Engineering at Case Western
Reserve University in Cleveland, and Conrad is a senior at St. Augustine High
School.
They are both graduates of Stella Maris. When not teaching art to children, I
enjoy oil painting and walking with Rocky along the beach.

Sharing my love of art with children

My primary goal will be to help students experience and appreciate art and
the beauty of the world around them, and to lead them to discover unique and
constructive methods of self expression. We will explore the visual elements
and principles of art and design and experiment with various materials and
processes. Students will develop skills and vocabulary for looking at and
discussing art as we periodically delve into the works of significant
artists. We will also examine the cultural and historical contexts in which
art is created, integrating our art lessons with the general curriculum
whenever practical. Our art classes should be a comfortable safe environment
where students can enjoy learning and creating.
