Hi Third Grade students and families!!
I will be starting my 10th year of teaching 3rd Grade at SMA. The years are
flying by!
I have been an educator since 1993. I received my undergraduate degree--a
Bachelor of Arts--from California State University Hayward. I remained there
another year and completed my Multiple Subject Credential.
Being a Navy wife (we travel!), I only worked in Alameda Unified School
District one year as a Gate Teacher for grades 2-5. It was a great
introduction to teaching.
San Diego was our next move where I was a substitute teacher before joining
the ranks as a Catholic schoolteacher with the Diocese in San Diego.
I worked several years at Sacred Heart School in Coronado (teaching 4th)
before we moved to La Jolla and Stella Maris Academy! The rest, as we say, is
history!!
Three years ago, I completed my Master's Degree to earn a Reading Specialist
Certification, which has really helped me reach all of my students' needs.
Last summer, I was one of three SMA teachers to attend the All Kinds of
Minds program. This program helps teachers to look at all the many ways
children learn and find their strengths to build upon. It was
fascinating, and I use much of this information when I plan
lessons and "reflect" on the learning in our class.
year!
I recently completed a year-long program affiliated with the University of
Notre Dame. I was part of a new program called Teaching Exceptional Children,
and we learned so many things about assessment, behavior, and strategies for
reading, writing, and math. One of our tasks is to teach what we have learned
to our colleagues, so that is one of many things I will be doing this school
year! Of course, I will be applying many of the strategies in our own
classroom, as well. It should be a great year for your children!!
I look forward to working with you and your children this coming school year!
