How can I support my child's learning at home?

1. Discuss your expectations about middle school with your son or daughter and
listen to their needs.

2. Set up reasonable and reachable academic goals for the first marking
period. Understand this is a time of transition and it may take your child a
few weeks to get up to speed in their new middle school environment.

3. Increase your child's responsibility for their own school work by having
them use a daily planner.

4. Establish homework routines with a specific time and place for getting work
done. Staying organized in middle school is the key to your child's success.

5. Set limits on extra-curricular activities based on their schedule and
yours. Don't let studies take a back seat to other things.

6. Keep up bedtime routines, but add a bit of flexibility for your child's own
choices.

7. Stay involved by communicating regularly with teachers.
