Beyond 8th Grade (or Life After 8th Grade)
The purpose of this WebQuest is to provide you with the experience of
investigating a potential career by recognizing your current strengths. In
addition, this WebQuest will expose you to a myriad of wonderful resources on
the web that will help you understand the requirements for high school and
college based on your interests and strengths.
Please work through as many steps as possible during this class period
1. Please be sure to have the half-sheet worksheet, a pencil/pen and your
notebook to write down the results of this WebQuest. Carefully and
thoughtfully read through the Information section.

2. There is a host of resources available on CollegeBoard.com. The site is
dedicated to educating students, parents and teachers on making good choices
for college-bound high schoolers. Use the following link to first find a
career that may interest you. After you select the 'Career Category' on the
right side of the page, click through to the different 'Related Majors' on the
right side of the page and on the new page, you will find 'Helpful High School
Courses' (what you should take in high school to pursue this major in college)
and 'Typical Major Courses' (for college). You can peruse this set of pages
for a long time - there's so much info!

3. But before you go to college (typically), you've got to complete high
school successfully! Here's a link that will guide you through the ins-and-
outs of development a high school action plan, year-by-year. Read through
carefully! Do you have a high school action plan??? Once on this
collegeboard.com 'Plan for College' area, peruse all the high school
planning links to get helpful hints for each year of your high school
experience.
