For the week of November 2nd -6th
Island of the Blue Dolphins-
We will begin our three week literature focus on the award winning book by
Scott O’Dell. Most of our instruction will be self lead literature circles
where the students each have tasks and responsibilities. In addition, we
will have whole class writing instruction throughout the week. Therefore, I
will not be needing parents to come in and volunteer for the next three
weeks. Our normal schedule will resume after Thanksgiving break.
Weekly Curriculum
Island of the Blue Dolphins- Please refer to the sheet sent home for specific
details. This week’s focus will be on chapters 1-7. We will work on
understanding the setting and developing the characters of the story.

Math: We will test on Unit 3 this Wednesday. A study guide will go home today.
Science: Test to go home on Monday. I will give a supplementary quiz to the
class on ten vocabulary terms later in the week.
Social Studies: Unit 2: Early people in California; from California’s natives
to European settlers. In addition, we will learn about how the Spanish
changed and influenced the natives.
* October Reading Calendar: Continue to log books in your calendar. Make
sure to log all of the necessary information. I will calculate SRI quizzes
and book reports.
