Is homework due every day?

Homework is assigned daily. It is to be TURNED IN to their homework folder (on their
desk). I will have homework checkers "check in the homework". I will review this to see
who is/is not doing their homework. MATH, we normally correct in class every day. I then have
the kids turn it in. Other things are due and/or turned in as posted on the Work in Progress
board in class.

Is there any major event that will need organizing?

Glad you've asked! The answer would be, "Yes!" With my class each year, I
have always had an all out Thanksgiving party. I love this holiday, as we can
really go to town and incorporate all that makes us the wonderful,
multi-cultural class that we are. Come EARLY November, I'll be putting out
feelers for who would like to bring/do what for our classroom potluck. The
party itself will be on the Monday of the week of Thanksgiving. More info. to
come as needed! I already can't wait! As for the rest of the year...I'll
keep you posted :)

ALSO: As you might know if you are a returning parent to 3rd Street, we have
had a successful
"Culture Day" for the past two years or so. My class was generously given a
chocolate 'fountain'
by a previous parent, and we have used it as our class 'booth' project ever
since. I'm proud to
say, it has become a traditional favorite! My previous room moms have always
been willing to
pass along the secret to making it work, as well. :0) Hopefully, I'll have a
volunteer parent or
two this year to hold down the chocolate fort!

What can a parent/guardian do to help our classroom?

Thank you for asking! The most important thing one can give is their time.
If you are able to volunteer as a field trip chaparone, or help out during
class parties, that would be super! We also have a Wish List section on this
website that has things we'd love to have...and need! :)

May we bring something to celebrate a birthday in class?

I love celebrations! We will have plenty during the year. But, since
unexpected parties can be disruptive, I ask that you’d be kind enough to do the following:

Please...give me at least one day’s notice! You never know: we may have a
field trip scheduled
on a given day, an assembly or some other thing that would get in the way of
celebrating, time
wise. Also, please only bring things that we do not have to cut or pour!
Brownies, cookies and
juice boxes or water are perfect!

What is the class restroom policy?

Students are allowed to use the restroom whenever they wish. Girls must
choose a boy, boys choose a girl as a “buddy” (i.e. one of them must stand outside to wait, so no
playing in the restroom!). If a student abuses the privilege, however, he/she will then have to ask permission
to go.

Is water allowed in class?

Sport top water bottles in class are fine (fewer spilling 'accidents' that
way)! If it’s frozen, please
remember to place a sock around it, so that the desk doesn’t get wet.
