I grew up near San Francisco, where most of my family was from. After
receiving my BA in History from California State University, Hayward, I
moved to London, England. I lingered there for the better part of 4 years,
working in a Mexican Restaurant (yes, in London!) and enjoying life. I've
spent one summer in Paris, brushing up on my French; one working in Monte
Carlo (another Mexican Restaurant!); another hanging out on a ranch in Jackson
Hole, Wyoming. I've walked 500 miles across Spain by myself--twice (a 3rd
time is already in planning stages)!. Last summer, I spent 6 weeks
volunteering at a cooking school "farm" in the South of France, owned/run by
an English chef and his wife.
L.A. has been "home" since 1993, where I've worked in restaurants (of both the
fancy & the casual sort) and have been a personal assistant. I have two
goddaughters, who you'll no doubt hear loads about: Marley (9) and Peanut
(8) (aka "Moo" & "Nut"). They are students at Community Magnet where their
mom teaches (I've known her for over 20 years!) and they are my life's most
incredible joy. I spend so much time with them that I'm sort of like a 3rd
"parent"! Their dad, Mr. (Chris) Heltai, is one of my very best pals;
he actually subs a lot at our school and we have recently finished writing a
script together. Let's see...oh yeah! I am also 'mom'...to a persnickety cat,
Quincy, whose stories you'll also find out about, I'm sure.
I began my teaching career as a substitute in Los Angeles (mostly at 3rd
Street) in 1998, and was permanently hired (at 3rd Street) to teach 4th grade
in 2000. I have taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at Third Street. I consider
myself fortunate to be working at our school, teaching your children
:)
If you ever need to contact me, please feel free to make use of my email
address (above). I check it often! (FYI: If ever I don't respond right
away, please know that we have a MORE than occasional problem with our
Internet service being "down" at school in which case, I will not have been
able to check my email).
