SPRING SEMESTER ~ 2012

Feb. 17: Spelling Test: Abbreviate -- Mischievous. Also, turn in the Unit Review answers for Capitalization from your English 2600 book (Frames 2227-2249). Test on Capitalization from the English 2600 book.

Feb. 16: Green Lit Books: Write complete sentence answers for the reading comprehension questions #1-5 on "George Gray" on page 552. Also answer questions #1 & 2 of the "Critical Reading" Section on page 552.

Feb. 14: Write a 20-line poem with your choice of topic. Include at least one each of the following figurative language/sound devices: 1) Alliteration; 2) Simile; 3) Metaphor; 4) Personification; 5) Rhyme; 6) Onomatopoeia. Use two of the requested devices three times and number each line of your poem. At the end of each line, please state the specific type of poetic device you used.

Example: The angry, ferocious thunder echoed against the massive, purple clouds as the sun's joyful rays of light made way for a promising and glorious dawn. Devices: Personification

Feb. 10: Spelling test: Achievement -- Marriage. Also a test on Capitalization. Please paraphrase the poem "The Rose." Use synonyms and vivid words in your restatement of each line.

Feb. 9: In MLA format, write a Power Paragraph about the poem "Sympathy." Select three separate lines to use as Concrete Details and write a transition in front of each CD. Also write a 2-sentence Commentary Analysis for each of your CD's. Your paragraph should be 11 sentences.

Feb. 8: Find a poem or song about love (spiritual, friendship, family, personal) and print it up. Number each of the lines and select two lines which you feel are the most important/significant. Write a transition/CD and CMA for each of these two cited lines. Use MLA format in your CMA's.

Feb. 6: Type an MLA formatted Power Paragraph of 11 sentences based upon the poem "George Gray." Write your Power Paragraph with three concrete details in which you cite some of the mistakes/regrets that the narrator made in his life. Use specific lines from the poem as your concrete details (3) and analyze each of your quoted lines in your two-sentence commentary analysis responses. Underline your Topic Sentence and Concluding Sentence in blue ink, your Concrete Details in green ink, and your Commentary Analysis in red ink. Binders are due also.

Feb. 3: Spelling test (abbreviate - literacy) with 2 DOL sentences and a capitalization test. Bring in binder with tabs: Success, Class Notes, Grammar, Poetry, Reading, Speaking, Spelling/Vocabulary, and Writing.

Feb. 2: Write each sentence that you missed on the Capitalization worksheet two times each. Designate each corrected capital letter with the revision mark of three underscored lines.Staple your worksheet to the back of your corrections.

Feb. 1: Make corrections to the Capitalization Worksheet.

Jan. 31: Print out the lyrics to one of your favorite songs. Next, write a Power Paragraph as follows: Sentence 1: List the title of the song, the singer, and the theme. Sentence 2: Write out the words to one of the most meaningful lines from the song. Sentences 3 & 4: Write an analysis of the meaning to the words on this line. Sentence 5: Write down the words to another meaningful line from your song. Sentences 6 & 7: Write an analysis of the meaning to the words on this line. Also write two sentences each about: 1) why the song has meaning for you and 2) explain the theme/message.
