HS Computer Syllabus

SENIOR HIGH COMPUTER SYLLABUS AND GRADING POLICY

SYLLABUS OVERVIEW
1. 	WINDOWS 
Each student will learn to utilize the basic functions of the WINDOWS XP 
platform.
2. 	WORD PROCESSING
Students will learn the basic Word Processing concepts with emphasis on 
education and business applications.
3. 	SPREADSHEETS
Each student will learn the basic spreadsheet concepts with emphasis on 
problem-solving applications.
4. 	INTERNET
Students will explore the use of the Internet.  They will learn e-mail 
basics, to use web search engines, and how to use the Internet more 
effectively.
5. 	PRESENTATION 
Using PowerPoint, each student will learn the basics in presentation 
graphics, graphic design, and technical illustration.
6. 	KEYBOARDING SKILLS 
      Utilizing computer software, each student will master the QWERTY 
keyboard through daily lessons, tests, and exercises.
7. 	  COMPUTER LITERACY
Students will learn approximately 80 basic terms and how they relate to 
computer technology. 
8. 	BEHAVIOR
Internet is used only when instructed to do so.  Students are never to be 
use the Internet for e-mail (on the school computers).
Behavior that hinders the learning process (i.e. talking, disruptive, or not 
participating) for anyone is addressed in the following sequence:
1) Warned   2) Call parents and after school with me  3) Detention 4) Mr. 
Fast
Severity of the offense dictates entrance of sequence.

GRADING IS BASED UPON THE FOLLOWING:

1. 	Daily Assignments represent 50% of the quarter grade.  Daily 
assignments consist of daily typing grade, processing assignments and 
classroom behavior.
2. 	Tests and Quizzes represent 35% of the quarter grade.  These tests 
and quizzes will be on literacy and applications students are learning.
3. 	Keyboarding represents 10% of the quarter grade. 
4. 	Class Participation represents 5% of the quarter grade.  Class 
participation involves class conduct, sharing information, participation in 
discussions, etc.
5. 	Semester exams represent 20% of the Semester grade and is a 
comprehensive test over all learned that semester.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
KEEP A NOTEBOOK -  Vocabulary lessons for review.
