A teacher’s job is to inform and allow children to grow and learn in a natural
safe environment to them. Teachers guide and nurture, not overwhelm and
put-down. These are my basic ideas about teaching and why I began to teach.
Everyone learns in very different ways. Since I am a kinesthetic learner, I
believe in a hands-on approach in the classroom. I also use audio instruction
and visual examples. I want my students to get involved in learning through
cooperative learning techniques, tapping into prior knowledge, using realia
and dramatization in my lesson plans. A teacher shouldn’t just expect students
to memorize facts; a teacher needs to convey those facts in different
perspectives with creativity and practicality. My goal is teaching students to
be critical thinkers while teaching them the curriculum set forth by the
school. My responsibility is to help my students do well in 5th grade while
preparing them for 6th grade.
Parents need to be involved in this endeavor, so I am always inviting parents
into the classroom. I feel that students want their parents to participate in
their lives. Many times through out the year, I have parents help out and
share their expertise with these wonderful scholars.
They are always welcomed.
Finally, I feel I need to help my students learn to make positive choices both
in and out of the classroom. We, as a community, need to show to our children
that there are lots of peaceful tolerant attitudes in this world. I feel I can
do this by being committed to my students, their families and the
community. With help, every student can reach his/her full potential and
become a successful member of this society
