16 Squares

In this project students were asked to describe themselves using the 16 squares format. Each square had to represent something about them as well as follow the shading directions to create the checkerboard look.

Fish in a Jar

In this project students first learned how to do a basic contour drawing using proportion. Then they learned how to expand on that by shading to make it look more realistic. Next they used their knowledge of colored pencils to create a fantacy fish.

Illuminations

For the Illuminations project students learned to use warm and cool colors to create a focal point (area of emphasis)within their composition.

Still Life

For the still life project students learned to draw what they see. We reviewed proportion, sighting, and restating a line.

Tessellations

M.C. Esher was the insperation for this project. Student learned about his life and work. Then they learned to make 3 different types of tessellations (translation, rotation, and reflection). After that they chose their favorite tessellation style and created their own.

Value Blocking

Using the their still life drawing students created a new artwork based on value. Students joined similar values until they had only white, gray, and black. Then they cut the shapes they had created to form their new composition.

Value/Outline Study

Students learned the difference between an outline and a contour drawing. They outlined and overlapped several objects and then created different values in each section.
