About The Teacher

My name is Sandra Crenshaw and I am one of the fourth grade teachers at
Westlake Charter School. I have taught second and third
grades but feel that fourth grade is where I belong!

I feel very fortunate to be part of an awesome team of professionals and I
appreciate the opportunity to serve and teach your children an exciting,
challenging, and innovative curriculum that focuses on diversity and
appreciation of different cultures, while promoting academic excellence and
foreign language acquisition.

I am a credentialed teacher and have taught fourth grade for six years
at Catholic schools within the Diocese of Sacramento. As a student teacher,
I taught 1st and 5th grades at Phoebe Hearst Elementary School in the
Sacramento Unified School District. I have a Master's Degree in Educational
Technology and incorporate technology in the classroom. I have also been
involved with Student Council and have taught a course in German language
and culture.

I am also a 5th Degree Black Belt/Master Instructor in the Korean martial
art of Tang Soo Do and have taught children and adults for over 25 years.

I am of Filipino and German heritage and speak fluent German. I have lived
overseas in Greece, Germany and the Azores, Portugal for a total of 11
years. I’ve traveled to many countries including, Belgium, Luxembourg,
France, Spain, England, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, the Czech
Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Morocco, Mexico, and Korea. I love to travel
and enjoy learning about many different cultures and people. I enjoy sharing
my love of travel and different cultures with my students at Westlake
Charter School.

Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of education is to connect with the students to create an
active, energetic, engaging environment that fosters an enthusiasm for life-
long learning, not just academically but learning that encompasses the whole
person and that stresses their responsibility as human beings and citizens
of this planet. Students are taught to celebrate and respect each other’s
uniqueness and strengths and will learn to share their gifts and talents
with their classmates by working in cooperative groups. I believe that the
perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds of all students are important in
order to enrich learning in the classroom. In a collaborative classroom
everyone learns from everyone else, and no student is deprived of the
opportunity of making contributions and appreciating the contributions of
others. Furthermore, students are taught in a safe, nurturing, student-
centered environment where respect is always present.
