November/December Newsletter 2008


Dear parents,
Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a great time off! Now that were back, I wanted to
let you know my plans for the next two months.
For Language Arts, we will be reading the classic book Sarah, Plain and Tall, by Patricia
MacLachlan. This is a great book for students to learn about living in Middle America when there
were mail order brides.
We also will be reading stories from our Open Court Reading Series. The theme is Dollars and
Sense. We are learning about running businesses, the world of work, and careers. Of course we are
practicing grammar, spelling, and writing. Along with summaries, we are writing narratives about a
Haunted House and a Haircut.
For Social Studies, we are studying about the four regions of California and the Native American
tribes that first settled here.
In math, we are going to focus on multiplying by two digits, long division, and then moving to
Geometry. The process for multiplying and division can be challenging, so please help your child
tackle these two important skills.
If your child still doesnt have their multiplication facts memorized, now is the time. You can
buy some flash cards and practice everyday.
We still have our specialist teachers for science, art, and music. If you have any questions or
concerns write me a note in the agenda, call, or e-mail.

Estimados Padres,
Bienvenidos! Espero que usted y su familia hayan disfrutado las vacasiones. Ahora que hemos
regresado, quiero dejarles saber mis planes para los prximos dos meses.
Para arte de lenguaje, estaremos leyendo el clasico libro Sarah, Plain and Tall, de Patricia
MacLachlan. ste es un gran libro para que los estudiantes aprendan sobre como vivian en America
Media cuando habia casamientos arreglados.
Tambin estaremos leyendo historias de nuestro series de lectura de Open Court. El tema es
Dolares y Sentido. Estamos aprendiendo sobre como manejar un negocio, el mundo del trabajo, y
carreras. Por supuesto tambien estamos practicando ortgrafia, deletreo, y escritura. Junto con un
resumen escribiremos una narrativa sobre una Casa de Espantos y un Corte de Pelo.
Para estudios sociales, estamos estudiando sobre las cuatro regiones de California y las tribus de
los Americanos Nativos que se colocaron aqu primero.
En matematicas, estaremos enfocado en multiplicacin de dos digitos y luego divisin larga y luego
Geometra.. El proceso para multiplicacin y divisionlos puede ser un reto, a si que por favor ayude
a su hijo/a lograr estas dos importantes habilidades.
Si su hijo/a todavia no tiene las tablas de multiplicacion memorizados, ya es tiempo. Usted puede
comprar tarjetas y practicar todos los das.
Todavia tenemos nuestros especialistas en ciencia, arte, y msica. Si tiene alguna pregunta o
