Update November 14, 2009
Two weeks into November. Five weeks to go in the first semester. Here’s the latest.
The Constitution Exam is behind us. It was very interesting looking at the test scores. Most of the scores were either really good (meaning “A’s”) or really bad (meaning “F’s”) which means either you studied, took notes, paid attention in class and were prepared OR you slipped in one of these areas. I normally do not give make-up exams since I believe you need to be prepared because life does not offer do-overs. However, knowledge of the Constitution is so important I am giving a rare opportunity to raise your score. First and Third periods already got the information and it will be given to Fourth, Fifth and Sixth periods in class on Monday. Details will be explained in class and there are a number of restrictions on how this works but basically, you can raise your test score by up to 23. To earn any points you must turn in the assignment before the Thanksgiving Break. NO EXCEPTIONS!
I did something a little different on the Cornell Notes for Chapter Six. I printed the answer sheet for section two and included it in your packet. I did this so you could have a better idea of how your notes should look. As I have mentioned, my class gets tougher as the year goes on as we get you ready for high school. From now on, to receive full credit, your Cornell Notes have to include full answers. I will also be cracking down on the late work and no-name papers. The late penalty (30% off the score if your work is late) will be strictly enforced in the second semester. No-name papers WILL be shredded. If you want to receive credit for your work put your name on it!
The November edition of the Eklund Educator Newsletter will be coming home on Monday and Tuesday. It includes an extra credit opportunity. Book order forms will be coming home on Monday and Tuesday as well. These will be the last orders before the Winter Break and I guarantee they will arrive before the break so if you want to order holiday gifts, here is a wonderful opportunity.
We will also be drawing names for a Secret Santa Gift Exchange. This is voluntary so only draw a name if you want to participate and will be in school the week before the Winter break. Price limit on the gifts is $5.00. Be creative. You can come up with some pretty cool presents for under $5.00 if you put some effort into it.
There is lot coming up and the distractions will be many. Remember to stay focused on the important stuff and you will do great. Oh, and I almost forgot......there are still a couple of spots left on the Washington D.C. Trip. If you would like to join us on this non-school sponsored event see me for a registration packet. Enjoy your weekend.
