Dear Parents, Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. We are looking forward to our eighteenth exciting year. We plan for it to be a rewarding learning experience for all our students. This year we have many office changes. Anne Allen has started her new position as Assistant Superintendent of Education Services. Mimi Curran will be Principal. We welcome Silvia Treichelt as Assistant Principal and Mariea Rafael as Attendance Clerk. Michelle Pitts will be School Secretary. Our focus will continue to be on creating a positive, respectful, safe school climate so our students may focus on the business of learning and meeting the State Standards and Benchmarks. We will let you know how you can help at Back To School Night. This year we are pleased to be implementing an extended day Kindergarten. All Kindergarten students, not in the pilot program, will attend school from 8:05-12:55p.m. All students will continue to participate in LIFE(Learning Is For Everyone)TIME everyday. We will be setting aside 30 minutes each day where students will be grouped according to need and work with a teacher on a specific skill. We will also continue to implement math and language boards daily. One way we communicate and promote a good relationship between home and our school is through our Student/Parent Handbook. You received your copy of the handbook in the materials sent home with your child on the first day of school. The purpose of the handbook is to share the school’s procedures and policies as well as to provide general knowledge about Laurel School. Parents are encouraged to contact the school with any questions, suggestions, or concerns.
