7th Grade World History

CHAPTER FORMAT FOR SOCIAL STUDIES
TWO-WEEK OVERVIEW

WEEK 1

 	Monday

o	Current Events and Geography skills
o	Take a look at the chapter in focus
•	Scan pages, maps, diagrams, charts, etc.
•	K-W-L (dipstick)
•	Assign reading, homework packet, notes, be ready for quiz tomorrow.

 	Tuesday-Friday

o	Open notes quiz based on last night’s reading
o	Collect homework
o	Slide presentation based on last night’s reading
o	Reinforcement Activities

Examples:
•	(Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking)
•	Responding to supplemental articles, art, audio/video. 
•	Assign homework.

*Every night students will complete three small tasks:
1.	Outline notes (approximately one page in notebook)
2.	Read a section of the text
3.	Write responses to review sheet (homework)


WEEK 2

 	Monday

o	Slide review of chapter
o	I present any other supplements (audio/video clips, pictures, stories, etc.)
o	Begin extension activities in compass groups 
    (list on next page)
o	Vocabulary due tomorrow

 	Tuesday

o	Collect Vocabulary
o	Extension activities in groups
o	Glossary due tomorrow

 	Wednesday

o	Collect Glossary
o	Groups present their work
o	Everyone discusses and reviews chapter, compare study guides, notes, etc.

 	Thursday  

o	(If Thursday does not work out for test because of scheduling, Friday will
become our second option.)
o	Collect notebooks
o	Test  

 	Friday
o	Review Test/ Revisit K-W-L/History Circles 
Extension Activities:

Groups will have two class periods this week to design, construct, and present
one of the following that highlights your understanding of the chapter:

(I will let you know what activity we will focus on for each chapter.)

o	Historical role play
o	Interview
o	Newscast
o	Puppet show
o	Storytelling
o	Talk show
o	Brochure
o	Game
o	Map
o	Class debate
o	Poster
o	Newspaper
o	Timeline
o	Slide presentation (Powerpoint or Keynote)
o	Collage
o	Mural 
o	Drawing
o	Other (if approved by teacher)

*Rubrics will guide you in your preparation and delivery.  Letter grades will
not be given but effort will be taken into consideration.  This is primarily
an opportunity to sharpen your public speaking and presentation skills. 
Presentations should be no longer than five minutes in length.
