Congratulations to Alec T., Ruby G., David S., Amara S., Haley S., and Eli S. for their outstanding science projects at VOCS Science Fair. Alec will represent our school at the Kern County Science Fair on March 16 at Rabobank Convention Center. Ruby and David's projects have been chosen as alternates.
~HONOR MUSIC FESTIVAL
Congratulations to Kelsey S. for earning a seat as a violinist in the Kern County Honors Orchestra. The orchestra will be performing February 28, 2009 at the Rabobank Auditorium in Bakersfield at the Honor Music Festival. The Honor Music Festival provides performance experience for advanced music students in Junior High and Middle school. Ensembles include Band, Orchestra and Choir.

Valley Oaks Charter School
is proud to announce this year’s winner of the National Geographic Geography Bee. 8th Grader Timothy G. took the honor of placing first in the competition held January 9th. There were seven contestants ranging from grades 4th - 8th. This is VOCS Tehachapi’s second year of competing.

Only first place finishers at Regionals continue on. This was an amazing group... our best yet and ALL have a lot to be proud of.
~LEGO ROBOTICS FLL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT
Our Lego teams traveled to Clovis, CA Saturday, Dec. 13 to participate in the Central California FLL Championship Tournament.
The Medieval Bunnies of Doom, consisting of Amara, David, Matthew, Clayton, & Michael with coaches Mr. Puffer & Mr. Wolfe and the Tehachapi Polar Bears-Sequoia, Zachary, Nicholas, Myrinda, Lorenzo, T.J. , Lisa, Mikayla, with coaches Mr. Hart, Mrs. Brino, & Mrs. Graham traveled to Clovis to compete against many other CA teams. Both teams were judged on teamwork, design, and successful completion of "missions". The missions were performed by individual Lego robots which were programmed by the students.
The Polar Bears received an award for Spirit; they cheered, they yelled, they rattled, and they rolled with the best of them!!
~"MY DAY IN COURT" ESSAY CONTEST WINNERS!
Congratulations to Sydney G., Sarah M., & Tim A., for their winning "My Day in Court" essays, submitted after the Mojave Courthouse field trip. This field trip and the subsequent essay contest are sponsored by our local Tehachapi Optimist Club for 6th-8th graders. Each winning student will be a guest of the Tehachapi Optimist Club at their luncheon at Kelcy's, be given the opportunity to read their essay to the club members, and receive a $50.00 savings bond.
