K-1st and 1st-3rd</span></div> <div><font style="font-size: 10pt;" size="2"><strong>Week 1 - </strong>We had a wonderful start to our Wild Things classes this past week. We began by reading Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. We talked about characters, and in the 1st-3rd class, we did a web on the board of the characters in the book and came up with adjectives to describe them. Then we made our own Wild Things masks which we will use in each of our classes. You can follow up on this at home by discussing the characters in the books that you are reading and listing adjectives to describe them.<br /> <strong>Week 2 - </strong>We continued our focus on the elements of a story by reading (once again) Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. We talked about the setting of the story, and in the 1st-3rd class, we did a web on the board of the different settings in the book and came up with adjectives to describe them. We also reviewed characters. Then we made our own Wild Things forest trees (which grew in Max's room) which we will use in each of our classes and during our Wild Rumpus. Learning objectives will be to 1) understand that the tilting of the earth’s axis is the reason for the four seasons which leads to migration, 2) know that animals have unique adaptations that allow them to succeed in extreme situations, 3) identify continents, oceans & geographical terms & 4) complete a lap book to show mastery of subject.</div> <p>Class 1 – Seasons are the reason. <br /> Students will explore the reasons behind animals migrating (food/climate/reproduction) and will learn about the tilt of the earth causing the four seasons. They will label a globe with the climate zones and the Tropics of Capricorn & Cancer (solstices).</p> <div>Class 2 - Whales<br /> Students will learn about one of the farthest migrating animals – the California Gray Whale. We will take a look at the uniqueness of this whale (blubber, baleen, seasonal feeder, & migration) and chart the migration route.
