It is so easy to talk about my students, colleagues and my own family but how
does one speak about oneself?
I am starting my 22nd year of teaching all in Slave Lake. I started my career
at R.M.S.S. and after two years moved to E.G.W.
I have taught a variety of positions with several years in the area of Special
Education but my main area has been homeroom Grade Six.
I believe I have great passion in what I do and I'm continually learning
myself not only through Professional Development but daily from my own
students. They never cease to amaze me from year to year.
I love children and having fun, so what better job to have than a teacher.
They say that a teacher has the opportunity to touch a child's heart but in my
experience, the students are the ones who touch my heart.
I look forward to sharing this year with my students in our 6C community with
high expectations, teamwork, a positive attitude and most of all with a sense
of humour.
Every classroom should be a safe, respectful, supportive and caring place for
students to grow. When students feel a sense of belonging and ownership in
the classroom, they are willing to contribute and participate. This
environment happens only when teachers and students have supportive and
respectful relationships with each other. In order to establish this, I
believe open and honest communication is key. Therefore, a caring community
should have respect for opinions, opportunities to collaborate, and more
opportunities to make decisions together as a whole. I also believe that the
community should be light hearted with a sense of humour so that students will
feel comfortable in taking risks and experience fun with their learning.
Partnered with a strong community classroom I believe in positive attitudes
and students striving to do their best in everything they do. Taking pride in
their work and going that extra mile will result in students having great
success in all subjects.
I work particularly hard to infuse curriculum with technology, not simply for
the sake of using computers but to enhance learning.. When it is used to
deepen student learning, technology is a tool that can compliment education.
Ultimately, my classroom is about learners and learning. I approach the
curriculum from my students' eyes, looking for inroads to make it real and
relevant to them. Learners enter the world full of wonderment and excitement
about their surroundings. As a teacher, I see it as my challenge to not only
maintain that enthusiasm for learning but to make it grow.
I look forward to a successful and rewarding year with all the students in my
classroom community this year.
