Hi, my name is Lorie Lifrieri and I am the 7th Grade IPM science teacher at
Hamilton Middle School. This year in science we will be exploring human
body systems- in particular the cardio-vascular and pulmonary systems,
genetics, micro-life, ecology, and evolution. The teaching approach will be
strongly “hands-on” with the students actively involved in laboratory
experiments, class discussions, and projects. Lab work will be done within a
lab group but assignments for the most part will be individual. I will try to
assign homework Monday through Thursday evenings so the students will not
have homework on the weekends but there will be a couple longer term
assignments that will require work on the weekends.
Assignments can be accessed anytime through this web site, which will be
updated at the end of each week for the following week. You will also find
information about classroom activities, the objectives for my lessons, field
trips, special announcements, and testing dates.
My educational and work experience is fairly diverse. I hold a master’s
degree in Geology from the State University of New York at Binghamton and
nearly ten years experience working for Chevron U.S.A. in New Orleans as a
Petroleum Geologist. I also have a master’s degree in Education from the
University of Phoenix, and five years work experience as a Denver Public
Schools Reading/Writing Paraprofessional. This is my sixth year teaching
7th grade IPM science at Hamilton.

SUCCESS
I have found that the students who are successful in science are those that
pay attention in class, ask clarifying questions, do their homework, study
for tests, and turn in assignments on time. In other words, success is based
on hard work and effort and not luck or a high IQ!
CLASS ASSESSMENT
The assessment for this class will be based on the following:
end of unit tests
quizzes
homework
projects and labs
classwork (which includes maintaining student science notebook)
NOTEBOOK
Students are required to maintain a science notebook. The format recommended
is loose-leaf reinforced paper kept in a 3 ring binder with a folder to keep
returned homework and handouts. The notebook will be arranged chronologically
by units and will contain notes, vocabulary, written responses to activities,
and all returned papers.Notebook maintainence will be assessed by
periodically asking students to turn in pages from certain dates.
