To increase student interest and reading, we have started a middle school book nook in the Language Arts classroom. We are filling our shelves with new, interesting selections that appeal to middle school students.
Some of our current books:
I Am Number Four, The Power of Six, The Red Pyramid, Fang, Witch and Wizard, Fire, The Book Thief, The Hunger Games trilogy, Divergent, Insurgent, and a selection of Alex Rider novels.
Each month we are adding to our collection. Students jot down the names of books they enjoyed or would like to read, and I see what I can do! Therefore, I'd like to request parent help in maintaining and improving our classroom library. Below is a list of books that we would like. Remember...for every $10 donated, you can log one volunteer hour.
Requested books:
Matched, Crossed (two books) Ally Condie*
Everything On It, Shel Silverstein*
The Son of Neptune, Rick Riordan*
The Lost Hero, Rick Riordan*
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Ransom Riggs*
*Books currently listed on the NY Times Bestsellers List for Children (from this year).
Thank you for your support with our classroom library. The students are very interested in the new selections, and our current "check-out" system is working quite well.
