Reading: This class will receive targeted, research-based instruction on
the essential reading strategies required for fictional and nonfictional
reading materials. Data will be collected throughout the class to monitor
progress. Students will be required to read at home for 30 minutes a day
for a total of 150 minutes a week. Parents will be asked to verify these
readings on a reading log. The student teacher ratio is kept small to
enhance the interaction and opportunities to learn.
Writing: This class will receive individualized, research-based instruction
on the writing conventions and topic development. Individual conferences
will be held to address the specific needs of each student. Students will
maintain a writer's notebook with class notes, vocabulary enrichment, topic
ideas and writings.
