10/5/09 - Parent teacher conferences are coming up. Be sure to sign up
online. For these conferences we ask that parents sign up for their homeroom
teacher only. If you would like to meet with Mrs. Young, regarding math or
social studies, please contact her to set up another time. Thank you for
understanding.
10/2/09 - Thanks to our Channel 7 connection here at PRA Theresa Marchetta
helped us coordinate a special guest speaker.
Meteorologist Richard Ortner spoke to your children today about the weather
to go along with the unit I am teaching on clouds and the water cycle. Be
sure to ask your child they learned today. Mr.
Ortner shared many interesting facts and safety tips for different weather
conditions.
In addition to this visit, he took a video of the students that have
permission to be in the media. Look for your child on channel 7, tomorrow
morning at 8 am and in the evening at 5 pm.

kiddos. This test is taken in the computer lab and will be over reading,
language arts, and math.
8-10-09 Back-to-School Picnic from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Hope to see you
there!
SPOW - Special Panther of the week - In second grade we celebrate
each student as the Special Panther of the Week (SPOW) sometime during the
year. See attached list for exact dates.
- The SPOW will bring home a small bulletin board the Friday before
their special week which may be decorated with pictures of the student (Mrs.
Young especially likes baby pictures of the student and pictures of the
student¡¦s family), awards, interests and whatever else the student may wish
to share with the class.
- We usually share the board on Tuesdays of the student¡¦s SPOW week.
The SPOW may also bring in a pet to share. If it is a small furless pet in
a cage or container, it may stay all day. Larger or furry pets will be
shared outside, hopefully during recess (9:25 or 12:15¡Xthere are less
people
out in am). Arrangements need to be made ahead of time with Mrs. Young.
- The SPOW will get to sit in the SPOW chair all week during DEAR and
other reading times.
- When students with summer birthdays have their SPOW week, we will
also celebrate their birthday during that week, you may choose a day that
week that is convenient for you if you want to bring a treat¡Xjust let me
know.
- If your student¡¦s birthday is on a school day, we will celebrate
that day. If it is on a weekend or holiday, we will celebrate whichever day
is closer or more convenient for you.
- Students may bring in a birthday treat to share with the class on
their birthday or assigned celebration day. Please send napkins and plates
if needed. We will eat the birthday treat after specials (2:25) in the
afternoon (outside as long as the weather is good) after we celebrate.
