                6th GRADE MUSIC VIDEO PROJECT

Our 6th Grade Music Video Project is a requirement and provides an
opportunity for each of you to share your unique musical creativity with our
class. You will be divided into groups of no more than 3-5; however you may
chose to do an individual project. Though there will be a wide variety of
projects, each one must include music in some way as a vital part of the
video or live performance.

Video Project Guidelines:
Student projects will include the following:
• Students must turn in the Music Video Project Description paper for
approval by Mrs. Smits. All lyrics must be appropriate and submitted in
advance for approval.
• No more than 3–6 minutes of video, stored on a DVD or flash drive to be
shown in class.
• Topic must be centered around music and include it, either performed or
played by the students, as a vital part of the video.
• If you do not have access to a video camera at home, you may practice your
group project and perform it live in music class rather than by video.
• You may receive help from your parents and/or older siblings in producing
your video at home (filming, editing it on computer, and burning it to DVD,
etc.) But, please do most of the work yourselves. This is your group music
project – Have fun with it!!!
• Your group will need to work on this project at home, not during regular
class time.
• Costumes and props are to be items found at home – you do not need to
purchase anything expensive for this project.
• Please keep a copy of your project at home, and bring a copy to school to
show in Music class. Please label it with your group name and student names.

In-Class Video Project Presentation:
Your group will present your video (or live presentation) for our whole
class to see in Music on Wednesday December 5th, Thursday December 6th, or
Friday December 7th. Parents are welcome to attend the showings!

Grading Guidelines:
Your video (or live performance) will be graded on musical content and
quality, group participation, creativity, attitude and effort.
Thanks for putting forth your very best effort! I am looking forward to
seeing your wonderful music videos!

              6TH GRADE MUSIC VIDEO PROJECT
                  DESCRIPTION PAPER

1. Name of your Music Video Project:

2. Describe in 2-3 sentences your Musical Topic and what you plan to do in
your video or live presentation:

3. Name the music you will use:

4. Names of all students in your group:

5. When, where, and how often will your group practice?

6. Whose video camera will you use, and where and when will you film your
project?

7. Who will edit and produce your DVD or store it on a flash drive?

Please keep a copy of your project at home, and bring a copy to school to
show in Music class. Please label it with your group name and student
names.

As a rule, there will be no specific homework for music grades K-5.
However,
for grades 6-8, I will assign individual and group music projects that will
need to be worked on at home. For middle school elective classes such as
guitar, band, and the mini-musical class, daily practice at home is required.

I encourage all students to sing, play instruments, join extracurricular
music groups, listen to music, attend concerts, create their own music, and
explore the world of music on their own.
