Your children will need to be dropped off and picked up at Rocky Heights Middle School by a parent for these rehearsals. It is imperative to be on time for these rehearsals and pickup at the end. For the Saturday, May 17th dress rehearsal, the school programs on Monday, May 19th , and the final evening program on Wed. May 21st, we are asking parents to help apply basic makeup at home according to a simple character sketch provided in today’s folder. This is not mandatory, but recommended. We will have volunteers that will touch up the makeup in the dressing rooms if need be. Makeup will not be needed for the Tuesday, May 20th dress rehearsal. Also, please provide a small, healthy snack for your child to eat and a water bottle for both Dress Rehearsals, especially for the after-school practice on Tuesday.
Costume and Make-Up Information
BELOW ARE THE COSTUME AND MAKE-UP REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH CHARACTER. Please read thoroughly and have your child prepared as best as you can before arriving at the rehearsals and performances.
BASIC MAKE-UP:
As mentioned, please apply basic make-up on your children – particularly the girls - (e.g., eyeliner and blush) for the Saturday dress rehearsal, school shows on Monday during the day, and the main performance on Wednesday night. We have over 60 students in the play and there is no way we can do the make-up for all of the kids. Therefore, our make-up assistant has put together sketches for each set of characters for you to try at home. Put the base makeup on and then if you want to, add some of the character make-up. This is certainly not required, but would be appreciated. Our make-up assistant will do her best to embellish any make-up as needed.
COSTUMES:
Following is a list of what we want you to be aware of in getting the kids stage ready. Many of the kids will be wearing very warm costumes. We want to keep them as cool as possible underneath. Also, most of the cast will go barefoot on stage.
PEACOCK: She has a leotard and costume at school. No shoes. Hair pulled back out of face. See artist sketch for make-up. Please pin peacock or other feathers in her hair for a headpiece.
LEOPARDS: Full costume at school, top and pants. Barefoot; hair pulled back out of face, see artist sketch for make-up.
WOLVES: Sweatshirt, sweatpants, and ears at school. Barefoot, hair pulled back out of face, see artist sketch for simple make-up.
BEES: Costumes and antennae at school. Will need black long-sleeve t-shirt or leotard, and black leggings/crop pants/pants (parents are to provide these); barefoot, hair pulled back. See artist sketch for make-up.
FLOWERS: They will be in school-provided unitards w/ sheer skirts over. Wear appropriate under garments. Barefoot; pull hair back out of face; see artist sketch for make-up. (Head pieces provided as part of costume. Bring bobby pins).
BUSHES: They will be in green school-provided unitards/sheer skirts. Wear appropriate under garments. Barefoot; pull hair back out of face; see artist sketch for make-up.
MONKEY CHORUS: Sweatshirt and sweatpants are at school. Barefoot; hair pulled back out of face; see artist sketch for make-up.
ELEPHANT CHORUS: Sweatshirt, sweatpants, trunks, and ears are at school. Barefoot; hair pulled back out of face; see artist sketch for basic make-up.
SNAKES: Full costume at school. Barefoot. Is it possible to braid hair in a French braid? See artist sketch for make-up.
VULTURES: Shorts, shirts, Flip flops, and hats are all at school. See artist sketch for make-up.
LEADS (Baloo; Shere Khan; Bagheera; Shanti; King Louie): You can wear either black dance shoes, or be barefoot, whichever you prefer. Have your hair pulled back and out of your face. Please apply basic makeup, and our makeup assistants will embellish your faces.
If you have any questions, please contact Arlene Wearsch, 720-344-7265.
DVD and Photograph Sales
Please don’t forget - We are selling professional DVDs and taking professional photographs of the entire group, the smaller groups and individual pictures at the Dress Rehearsal on Saturday, May 17th. Early Bird Order Forms and payment are due on May 15th. If you forget to turn in your order form, there will be forms at the dress rehearsals, but please note that slightly higher prices will prevail. (Extra copy of order form is attached) You may pick up your DVDs and photos at the PRA school office at the end of May/early June. We will notify you by email when your order is ready to be picked up.
Reception /Concessions
As a fundraiser for the PRA music department, we will be selling refreshments before, during, and after the 5/21 performance. We need parents who can provide refreshments and assistance that evening. Please refer to the attached announcement.
Roses for Sale at the Program!!!
As a way to honor our wonderful student performers, we will be selling roses at our big evening program on 5/21. Please note that we will have approximately 12 dozen roses for sale. The cost for a single rose will be $3.00 and $2.00 for each rose thereafter. We are limiting the purchase of 3 roses per student so that we will have enough for everyone to purchase at least one!
Cast Pizza Party
The cast party will be held on Friday, May 23, 2008 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. We still need to collect $7.00 from several families to cover the costs of costumes/props and the cast party. If you haven’t already done so, please submit your payment either cash or check (payable to PRA) in an envelope addressed to Shirley Kuhloie. Also, please write your child’s name on the envelope so we know who has contributed.

April 9, 2008
Dear Jungle Book Kids Families,
Our Jungle Book Kids program is approaching quickly! We will be performing in just 6 short weeks! Our children bring enthusiasm and excitement to every practice, and they are doing such a fabulous job.
Tara Morgan will be working with me to email you necessary information for the upcoming performances. There will be times that you receive an email from her which may not pertain to you, but to make things easier for Tara; she will be doing mass emails to everyone on the Cast List. She will note in the “Subject Line” what each email is in reference to and at that time you can either read the email and respond or simply delete it if it does not pertain to you. We will also continue to send you notices through Thursday folders.
Costumes/Cast Pizza Party
We are very busy planning and organizing costumes for the show. Please be watching for a Costume Update soon that will describe details for your child’s costume. For the last performance, The Nutcracker, we graciously received a wonderful donation for a number of the costumes from one PRA family and the need for additional costumes was minimal. However, for Jungle Book Kids, we have a larger cast and will need additional funds for the costumes. We are very fortunate that the drama department at Rocky Heights Middle School is loaning us several costumes and stage props for our program! But we will still need to buy fabric, sweat suits, and supplies to make several costumes and some stage props. Thus, we are formally requesting funds from PTO on Monday 4/14. We hope they will grant us the majority of the funds we need.
However, we need to ask you to contribute $7.00 per student to help with the remaining costs and the cast pizza party on Friday May 23, 2008. $4.00 of this expense will help with costumes/props/supplies and $3.00 will pay for your child’s pizza at the party. Please send either cash or check (made payable to PRA) and send it in an envelope addressed to Shirley Kuhloie. Also, please write your child’s name on the envelope so we know who has contributed. Please send in your cash or check to rehearsal no later than May 1, 2008. Thank you!!!
Volunteer Meetings
If you would like to help with the performances in any way, we would love your help! There are still several areas of need. Please note the remaining parent volunteer meetings:
1. Wednesday April 16, 2008 at 3:20 p.m.
2. Thursday May 1, 2008 at 3:20 p.m.
3. Wednesday May 7, 2008 at 3:20 p.m.
4. (One additional meeting may be called, TBD)
Please mark your calendars for these important dates!
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact myself or Tara via email and we will get right back to you.

REHEARSAL & PARENT MEETING REMINDERS
All JUNGLE BOOK KIDS Cast/Choir Members
Attached please find the FINAL REHEARSAL SCHEDULE from now through our May programs. We expect that you will attend all rehearsals that apply to you. All of us are working hard to make this the best program possible! Thank you to everyone who is making an extra effort to be here on the correct days.
· Please READ your rehearsal schedule carefully!!! Do NOT rely on the after-school announcements only. If you misplace your schedule, it is posted on my music website under Choir, and is also posted on the bulletin board outside the music room.
· Over Spring Break, please finish memorizing your music, solos and speaking parts. If you would like to take music or a script home at any time, please see me before or after school.
· If you must miss a rehearsal, parents please email so we can make necessary adjustments.
· If there are any minor changes to this schedule, we will notify students and parents.
· The next Parent Volunteer Meeting will be on Thursday March 27th from 3:20 – 4:20 PM in the music room. Please join us! We will have specific places for you to sign up with time frames, so you can plan ahead to help in April and May. Thank you!
HAVE A GREAT SPRING BREAK!!! Mrs. Holly Smits

Jungle Book Kids Announcement!
March Monday Rehearsals
Please note, we have added 4 after-school Monday rehearsals from 3:30 – 4:30 PM during the month of March! This is because we need to make up a rehearsal from February (late start) and because we will miss a whole week of practices during Spring Break. Thank you for helping your children remember their rehearsals and for all your support of the Jungle Book Kids production!!!
2/13/08
Delayed Start Days - No Thursday AM Choir Rehearsal!
Parents and students, please note that if we ever have a delayed start, Thursday AM Choir rehearsal will be cancelled for that day. We will resume the following Tuesday after school at 3:30 PM with singers and groups who are regularly scheduled for that rehearsal. Thanks!
