Reading: Today we read the first three chapters of The Trojan War and wrote
a brief summary of those chapters together in class. We will have a test on
these three chapters Thursday. The test will include the vocabulary I
provided and the comprehension questions for those chapters. We will begin
working on the questions tomorrow in class and review Wednesday. There is no
reading homework tonight.
Writing: Today students were given some background information about the poem
The Raven, and I read the poem aloud to them in class. There is no
homework.
Social Studies: Today we watched a short film about Napoleon Bonaparte.
Students began reading chapters 11 and 12 and taking notes, which are due
tomorrow. Tuesday students will work on a study guide, Wednesday we will go
over the study guide, Thursday we will review, and Friday we will have a
test.

Reading: Today students were introduced to the Trojan War, which is the
novel we will begin reading in class Monday. Because of a limited supply of
copies, reading will take place in school. The class will discuss reading
elements as we read the novel and complete comprehension questions with each
chapter. Students were given this week’s TFK in class today. If it wasn’t
completed, it is homework.
Writing: We will begin reading The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe Monday and
identifying various forms of figurative language in the poem. There is no
homework.
Social Studies: We reviewed chapters 1 – 10 of The French Revolution. Monday
we will read and discuss chapters 11 and 12. Tuesday students will work on a
study guide, Wednesday we will go over the study guide, Thursday we will
review, and Friday we will have a test.

We had a great time on our field trip to the Colorado Mountain Club. The kids
enjoyed the rock climbing wall, a geology class, and touring the museum.

We had a great time on our field trip to International Towne today. The kids
really worked well together and did and excellent job running the world. We
have another field trip tomorrow to the Colorado Mountain Club. If you
ordered hot lunch for tomorrow, please respond to the e-announcement that was
sent by Mr. Duque.

We went to library today and students read and completed worksheets for a
TFK. If you did not finish, it must be turned in by Friday when we meet for
class again.
Today students met as groups with their countries to finish preparations for
International Towne. Yesterday students were assigned to write a paragraph on
the following topic:
As a world leader I would........
Students need to think how the world could be a better place and what they
could do globally to accomplish this if they were a world leader. This
paragraph is now due on Friday.
We have a field trip tomorrow and again Thursday. Don't forget to bring your
drink and lunch!

Today students met as groups with their countries to prepare for
International Towne. Students were assigned to write a paragraph on the
following topic:
As a world leader I would........
Students need to think how the world could be a better place and what they
could do globally to accomplish this if they were a world leader. This
paragraph is due Thursday.
The paragraph that was assigned last week before the snow hit, "When the Well
Runs Dry", is due tomorrow.

social studies classes for Tuesday, October 27, 2009. ***
Reading: We continued our discussion about water, and students began working
on a paragraph to respond to a prompt in their booklets. This is due for a
grade Friday. It can be either handwritten or typed.
Writing: Today students learned about alliteration, assonance, consonance,
and internal rhyme. We wrote sentences using alliteration and our first
names. There is no homework for poetry.
Social Studies: Today students made a personal flag that will be part of a
larger flag at International Towne. If you did not finish in class, I must
have it tomorrow.

social studies classes for Monday, October 26, 2009. ***
Reading: This week some of our lessons will be about our trip to
International Towne (IT). Today we discussed the sustainability of water and
the importance to do so. Students participated in whole class discussion and
then completed a paged in their IT workbooks. .
Writing: We will study figurative language through the use of poetry and
other poetic elements during the next few weeks. Our first poem of study will
be The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. Today students learned a little about the
author by doing an online scavenger hunt. If you did not complete this in
class it is homework and due tomorrow.
Social Studies: Today we learned about some of the customs in the countries
represented when we visit International Towne. The students found this to be
very interesting.
