The first unit that the students 3rd through 6th grades were participating
in was Ultimate Frisbee. Ultimate is played with two teams with seven or
more players. Just like basketball, Ultimate is a transition game in which
players move from offense to defense on turnovers. Turnovers occur with a
dropped pass, an interception, or a pass out of bounds.
K-2nd graders were practicing their throws and catches with the frisbee.

The students participated in Lacrosse. Lacrosse is the oldest sport in
North America, with its beginning dating back to the 1400s. The game was
played by Indian tribes from all parts of the United States and Canada.
While the 3rd through 6th graders played the game K-2 practiced their throws
and catches.
One of our units was Frisbee Golf. We were able to set up a nine hole
courseup on the field and play ground. The course was a par 30. After the
students completed the course for par they competed in Speed Golf.
The first formal Frisbee Golf Course was designed and installed in Oak Grove
Park,(Pasadena, Cal>), by Ed Headrick in the early 1970s.
The students got to experience Field Hockey. The sticks they used are about
three feet long with a little curve at the end. On the front of the curve
is the hard suface used to make contact with the ball. On the back of the
curve section is a pad to help protect any ones knees or feet.
The modern day Field Hockey grew from English public schools in the early
19th century. The first club was established in 1849 at Bleckheath in
southeast London.
