Update SCE

Computer/Server Tech issues

Another Day, Another Colored Technology Note!

What can you expect for Monday?

  1. Acting on the advice from the Apple Engineers, over the weekend I restructured the login authentication architecture of the three servers at the MS, SPE and SCE. We are hopeful that this will solve the underlying problems we have been experiencing and lead to a more efficient system.

  1. As you log in today, you will not notice any obvious changes since Fri. that we have made, but we will be monitoring the system to test our changes. We will be watching classes log in and monitoring the server processor graphs and logs.

  1. This rebuild in the directory structure required once again that I rebuild the database of names on each server. Therefore, some of the ÒfixesÓ that I made last week on user log ins may need to be redone. I tried to remember as many as I could, but I know didnÕt get them all. If there are students (or a staff member) who are having difficulty with logging in, please put it in the help desk once again even if I told you last week that it was working!

  1. I have not had time to redo all of the kindergarten short names yet, but I will let Kindergarten teachers know when that is complete.

  1. If these changes are successful, I will once again rebuild the curriculum programs so that we can test them.

  1. Issues that may be addressed with this restructure are:

    1. Slowness of logging in at SPE
    2. Even slower logging in at SCE (and there is a reason for this!)
    3. Server processors running so high that curriculum programs will not work.
    4. Necessity of logging in twice on OS X computers to mount sharepoints.
    5. Log in not showing up at the MS for the NT server in order for Classxp and Integrade Pro to work more easily.

  1. Cross your fingers!!!

Thank you for your support,

Cindy
