December

Second grade has adopted a family to support for the holiday season.  What a wonderful way to celebrate the season of giving.  Please check with your child’s teacher to see how you can help!

As winter is already in full swing, please remind your child to bring a winter coat, hat, gloves, snow pants, and boots each day for recess!

Descriptive writing has been the writing theme of the season.  Second graders have written both personal and factual descriptions.  We will begin writing narrative paragraphs after the winter holiday!

The winter holiday begins on Monday, December 20th. The second grade team wishes you a very merry winter!

Winter is here! The children are having a blast in the snow on our playground.  Please remember the children need a hat, gloves, snow pants, jacket and boots to be ready to play at recess. The students are having a fantastic time examining plants.
Reading rotations are running smoothly. The children have learned about the main idea, cause & effect, sequencing, phonemic awareness and using illustrations to help them understand text. We will continue to work on a variety of reading skills to strengthen comprehension.

The students are writing for a variety of purposes and are continuing to work on paragraph structure. We are studying word problems, money, time, temperature and measurement. We look forward to seeing you at our winter holiday parties. Thank you for your support in the classroom.

September/ October

It is hard to believe that we have already been in school for a few weeks now. Time flies when you are learning! Second grade is excited to welcome Kristi Spence and Aurora Sidell King to our team. They are both creative and compassionate teachers and we are excited to have them. We have a great team this year!

As we work hard to learn about your children, we promise to do our best and give your children the education they deserve. It has been great getting to know each and every second grader and we look forward to learning more as we go! They each have unique and wonderful attributes. Your children are also learning about us as teachers and our expectations.

Please contact us with any questions, concerns, or comments you might have. Our doors are always open!

Second Grade is a wonderful place to be as we continue to read, write, spell, compute, laugh, share, etc.

We are beginning our Science unit on seeds and plants. Each second grade class will be visiting Dumont Lake; half of second grade will be going on October 5th and the other half will go on October 6th. Second grade will also be taking a field trip to the Steamboat Botanic Gardens near the end of the month (we will keep you posted). Look for a field trip note for the day/time and please try to join us if you can fit this trip into your schedule.

October also brings a little holiday excitement for the students who are looking forward to dressing up. Halloween is already in the air. Please remember to send your child’s costume to school in a bag on Friday, October 29th giving the children the opportunity to change before our late morning parties.

We are looking forward to a wonderful school year and we thank all parents for supporting second grade learning.
