Winter is here! The children are having a blast in the snow on our playground. Please remember the children need a hat, gloves, snow pants, jacket and boots to be ready to play at recess. The students are having a fantastic time examining plants. The plant part potluck was so much fun. We enjoyed munching on our edible plants.
Reading rotations are running smoothly. The children have learned about the main idea, cause & effect, sequencing, phonemic awareness and using illustrations to help them understand text. We will continue to work on a variety of reading skills to strengthen comprehension.
The students are writing for a variety of purposes and are continuing to work on paragraph structure. We are studying word problems, money, time, temperature and measurement. We look forward to seeing you at our winter holiday parties. Thank you for your support in the classroom.

Second Grade is an awesome place to be as we continue to read, write, spell, compute, laugh, share, etc. Halloween excitement is in the air. Please remember to send your child’s costume to school in a bag on Friday, October 30 since the children will change before our late morning parties.
We are beginning our Science unit on seeds and plants. Each second grade class will be visiting the Botanic Park the third week in October. Look for a field trip note for day/time. And please try to join us if you can fit this trip into your schedule.
Also, a conference note will be sent home very soon for you to fill out and return. Thanks in advance for the timely return of these notes since it takes a while for teachers to organize a conference schedule.
All parents are welcome to join us for both the field trip to the Botanic Park and the Halloween Party!!!

Can you believe we have been in school for over a month already? Time flies when you are learning! Second grade is so excited to welcome Lisa Hogue to our team. She is an amazing and compassionate teacher and we are truly blessed to have her. We have a great team this year!
As we work hard to learn about your children, we promise to do our best and give your children the education they deserve. It is a blast getting to know each and every second grader! They each have unique and wonderful attributes. They are also learning about us as teachers and our expectations.
