ARC

ARC is the Accelerated Reading Computer program which motivates
students to read more and to challenge themselves by setting individual
reading goals. Students read books independently at their appropriate
level and then check comprehension on computerized quizzes.

Schoolwide reading celebrations are held at the end each semester for
those students who meet their goals. Past ARC celebrations have
included guest authors, storytellers, read-ins, and free books to
students.

Soda Creek's PIC has generously funded the ARC program since its
beginning. Funds raised by this group provide the money for ARC
quizzes, books, and special guest authors for celebrations. Parent
volunteers also help label the ARC books and plan and supervise the
celebrations.

The Soda Creek media center has thousands of ARC books available
for checkout. The ARC books are easily identified by a colored sticker on
the spine. The stickers are coded by reading level:
1st grade- red 4th grade- green
2nd grade- blue 5th grade- white
3rd grade- yellow 6th grade and above- black
