I first fell in love with science when I was a sophomore in high
school. At that time my goal was to become a veterinarian. However,
I found it very difficult to be around animals that were injured and
in pain. After taking many biology and science courses I decided to
become a teacher, like the one that had inspired me in my high school
biology class.
I began my teaching career at Central High School teaching Earth Science and
Biology. I have also taught Biology at the University School and continuing
adult education courses. This year will be my 11th year teaching middle school
science.
I am especially excited about the growth of STEM in our school. This year we
will be introducing new engineering projects from Engineering is Elementary
in grades K-8. I know that all of our students will benefit from learning the
engineering design process while expanding their understanding of
science,technology, and math.
I hope you can tell how much I love to teach science!! It is interesting,
challenging, exciting, and fun!! I am blessed to have students who
inspire me everyday to come up with fresh ideas for our classes.
The science curriculum has been mapped by the Diocese of Bridgeport. Each year
students will devote time to studying aspects of earth, life, physical, and
technological sciences. There is a strong emphasis on scientific inquiry in
all the areas of study. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) is
now being taught to all students in grades K-8. I hope that the students will
come to understand the scientific method and the processes involved with
designing and engineering solutions to every day problems.
