Language Arts

READING

During the course of the year, children will be completing 6 Language
Arts themes based on the stories and skills contained in
Harcourt's "Trophies" series. This series is supplemented
with leveled books for guided reading and other theme related materials.

HANDWRITING

Third grade is the year the children learn to write in cursive! In the fall
they complete a "Cursive Learner's Permit" and then are granted
their "Cursive License" in the spring.

SPELLING

Student spelling lists consist of a combination of phonetically regular
words, vocabulary words and some challenge words as well. Students take
pretests on Monday and tests are on Fridays.

WRITING

One of the highlights of third grade is the time we spend in writing
workshop. From elaborative details to great beginnings and endings we'll
spend time creating writing pieces that children will be proud of and that
will instill strong writing skills.
