Kindergarten Phonemic Awareness

Phonemic Awareness

* Phonemic Awareness is the ability to perceive sounds in words.

* Phonemic Awareness is the foundation for all reading. It begins at home
                during a child's early development.

* Phonemic Awareness is the most important predictor of reading success.

* Phonemic Awareness is not the same as phonics, although they are related.
Phonemic Awareness is about sounds, and phonics is attaching letters to
sounds. Phonics is a skill that is developed after the foundation of
   Phonemic Awareness has been built.

* The parental role in the development of Phonemic Awareness is crucial.
