Shakespeare Webquest

Shakespeare Webquest
Welcome! You have entered into a hunt for information regarding Shakespeare and the time period he lived in (known as the Elizabethan Age and the Renaissance). This information is vital in gaining an understanding of and appreciation for Shakespeare's great works. Instructions: You will be placed into groups and will work together to complete the discussion prompt assignment. Each group will be assigned a topic to research. Each group will explore the web sites on the Resources page to find the answers to their questions. Each group must submit four discussion questions with answers for evaluation. This information will be presented as a large group, and will be graded in accordance to the rubric on the evaluation page.
•  Group #1: Who was the man William Shakespeare? What was his life like? What is he known for? What mystery surrounds his identity? •  Resources •  Discussion Prompts
•  Group #2: What was life in Elizabethan England like? What was the social ranking? jobs? pastimes/recreation? education? religion? •  Mr. William Shakespeare and the internet •  After completing your research, each group should gather all the information and be able to answer the following questions:
•  Group # 3: What was the music of the Elizabethan era like? Most famous composers? instruments? dances? •  Proper Elizabethan Accents •  What are the 4 most important points/aspects to your topic?
•  Group #4: How has Shakespeare influenced life today? What famous quotes are attributed to him? From what plays are these quotes? Give examples of modern or contemporary films based on Shakespeare's work? What modern words did Shakespeare invent? •  Everyday Life •  What facts/information do you have to support these 4 main points?
•  Group #5: What was Elizabethan language like? How similar/different is it to today? How does one insult each other in Elizabethan language? Give examples. •  Absolute Shakespeare •  Finally, present your findings in a visual presentation.
•  Group #6: What was the dress of Elizabethan England? What was the fashion of the time? How did dress differ based on social status? Fabric? Comfort? •  The Life and times of William Shakepeare •  EVALUATION
•  Group #7: What was the Globe theater? What other playhouses were popular at the time? What was the layout? Cost? lighting? hosting a play? acting companies? favorite actors? Is the Globe used today? •  The Elizabethan Costuming Page •  4 Excellent Goes beyond the criteria for a good response. Does all things well and most things exceptionally well. Information about Shakespeare is accurate and insightful. Cites resources.
•  Life in Elizabethan England •  3 Good Meets the criteria solidly. Does all things well but a few exceptionally well. Information about Shakespeare is accurate and helpful. Cites resources.
•  2 Adequate Meets the criteria but only superficially. Does not explain or elaborate in any depth or detail. Offers little or false information about Shakespeare. Does not cite resources.
•  1 Inadequate. Addresses some of the criteria but does follow directions. Is too confusing to follow. Offers no helpful information about Shakespeare. Does not cite resources.
