How can I succeed in your class?

Always come to class prepared: includes materials & homework.
Missing homeworks WILL affect your grade. See homework FAQ.
Read, write, study, participate in discussions, and ask questions if you do
not understand something.

What is your homework policy?

Every 10 homework assignments will count as one test grade. Therefore, each
time you miss a homework assignment, you will lose 10 points.
Example: 1 missed HW = 90, 2 missed HW = 80, 3 missed HW = 70...etc.
This is how I will calculate the homework grades for each ranking period.
Please understand that homework functions as preparation, practice, and an
important tool for learning. It is vitally important!

Should I type or handwrite assignments?

Homework does not have to be typed unless your handwriting is illegible.
However, homework assignments DO have to be written in blue or black ink.

What about essays or papers?

All essays and papers must be typed, double-spaced with one-inch margins.
Handwritten work will not be accepted. Papers must be turned in by the end
of the school day on the date they are due, otherwise it's a zero. Late
papers will be marked down a letter grade for each day it is late.
If you are absent, the paper is due the day you RETURN to class.

What if I'm absent?

As young adults, it is your responsibilty to find out what you missed in
class when absent. You can accomplish this several ways: checking this
website, emailing me, or asking a peer. Per school policy, you have two
days for every day absent to turn in homework. I suggest that you always
make up work SOONER rather than later. As noted above, papers are due the
day you return. Tests and quizzes must be made up within a week of your
return.

What if I need to use the lavatory facilities?

Lavatory use is permitted during the first 5 minutes of class. If the
classroom pass is on the desk, take it and go; otherwise you will have to
wait until the pass is returned.
If you abuse this by taking extended and/or daily trips, you will lose this
priviledge.

What if I need to speak with you outside of class?

Students who need to speak with me outside of class can make an appointment
with me after class, during study, or after school. You can drop me a note,
ask me after class, or email me.
Parents can call me immediately BEFORE or AFTER school. You can also send
your child to class with a note containing the best time to reach you, or
you can email me. Please note that I do not always check my school email
over the weekend.

What is your Detention Policy?

You will be given 24 hour notice for detentions. Thus, detentions will be
served the following day of the date issued. For example, if I issue a
detention of Tuesday, it will be served after school, in my room (49), on
Wednesday. Detentions are administered after numerous verbal warnings,
conferences, and calls home.
