What is Integrated Language Arts?
This year we will be absorbing Social Studies into our Language Arts program.
Although we will still be following the district's Social Studies curriculum,
we will present the content material through the lens of Language Arts skills
in comprehension and non-fiction writing. We feel this will best meet the
needs of our students as they prepare for the spring CMT testing.
What is the grading criteria?
Classwork and homework count for 20%, quizzes and journals count for 40%, and
tests and performance tasks count for the remaining 40% of your child's grade.
Should I help my child with his/her homework?
Let your child try to complete their homework independently. If they are
becoming frustrated or are spending more than 20 minutes on any one
assignment, offer some assistance. If your child is still having difficulty,
have them circle the problem and place a question mark next to it, so they
remember to ask for assistance when we go over the homework the next morning.
Homework does not have to be a battleground. If there is a problem, please,
let me know and we will find a solution that fits the needs of your child.
Can my child make up missing homework assignments?
Yes. If your child comes to school without their homework, they can bring it
in the next day. If there are some extenuating circumstances, please, send
in a note and I would be glad to work with you and your child.
How do I reach my child's teacher?
You can reach me by e-mail at ryanm@naugy.net, call the school at 720-5227,
or simply send in a note. I will get back to you the same day. However, if
you send me an e-mail and I do not respond, you can safely assume the e-mail
did not get through to me. You can try again, or call, or write a note. We
have powerful filters on the school internet/e-mail, so some communications
are blocked.
What if I forget the teacher's e-mail address?
That's an easy one to solve. Simply go to naugy.net, select Cross Street
Intermediate School, and then select Contact Us. Then just look for my name.
That will lead you to ryanm@naugy.net.
