Welcome to the week of November 30th!
BOOK FAIR STARTS THIS FRIDAY!
LANGUAGE ARTS
Reading: Making connections will be the comprehension skill that we will
highlight this week. How can we relate to the character's
situations and feelings to better understand the story? Close
attention to detail provides us with insights that deepen our
connections to the characters and plot.
Writing: We will be putting to good use the many skills and techniques we
have been learning about for expository writing. Each night the
students will be writing one portion of their next essay. We will
be sure to add "Golden Bricks", vivid verbs, and plenty of
elaboration. We have some great writers and I am sure we will have
wonderful pieces.!
SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES
Ecosystems with their varied habitats and populations will be the
topic of this week's classes. Students are each making a flip-chart
that explains and illustrates the 5 elements of ecosystems.
Early American civilizations - the Mayas. Continuing with this
fascinating civilization, we will learn more about their cities and
how their society was structured. As we read, we will be learning
how to take notes so that we can incorporate our findings into a
"travel brochure" that will encompass not only the Maya but the
Aztecs and Incas as well.
