Welcome to the week of January 4th!
LANGUAGE ARTS
Reading: We have completed Part One of Maniac Magee, the novel by
Jerry Spinelli. Where will Maniac turn up in the second
part of this popular story? We will use this rich text as this new
year begins to review our comprehension strategies: questioning,
visualizing, infering, making connections and synthesizing.
Writing: Compare and contrast. This skill will be our focus for the
month of January as we prepare for our next district-wide
writing prompt.
SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES
In science, we are finishing up our animal research projects this
week. Students have selected an animal, then researched the
animal's physical features, habitat, eating and social habits.
Students are now ready to synthesize this information to create
a 5 five paragraph essay and a visual presentation.
In social studies, we will continue our study of early American
civilizations with the Incas. We will take a look at their
social structure, arts and sciences, capture by the Spanish, and
how they are still thriving in our world today. We will then add
this information to our ongoing travel brochure project
highlighting the Maya, Aztecs and Incas.
