HOW DO I JOIN BAND?

Very easy! Mr. P will be coming to the 5th and 6th grade classes to recruit
students for band. 7th and 8th graders looking to start band must see me on
their own. You can meet me in the music room or the stage.

How do I know what instrument is right for me?

When Mr. P will recruit you, he will show you all the instruments, and may
even let you try some of them. Together you and Mr. P will pick the
instrument that is best for you.

Can I play any instrument that I want for band?

No. Certain instruments require a limit as to how many people play them to
balance out the band. For example, drummers have a four person limit per
school, and are chosen via audition.

How much do instruments cost?

95% of our band students rent their instruments from JC Music company (Meriden, CT).
The instruments are given out on a rent-to-own basis. For prices
and other information visit jc-music.com.
The school does have some instruments, but are only loaned out if the
student's family is in a financial-need situation. The school administration
will have the final say as to who is loaned a school instrument.

Does some of the students go to Six Flags New England?

Yes. The students from the Edgewood advanced band and strings go to the PAC
music festival, perform at a nearby high school for adjudication, then go on
to enjoy the rides at Six Flags New England. This is a lot of fun and has
been going on for 9 years and counting.

What is the easiest instrument to play?

There honestly is no instrument easier to play than others. People prefer
some instruments to others, but everyone is different. All musical
instruments require good practice and discipline in order to sound good. I
think the easiest way to learn fast on a musical instrument is to pick an
instrument that YOU enjoy the sound of the best. Then you will enjopy
practicing it, and will learn the skills faster.
