Jessica Shearer holds a B.S. and M.A. in music education with an emphasis in
conducting and performance from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland,
OH and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She completed additional graduate
work at the Eastman School of Music during the summer of 2001 as a recipient
of the Excellence in Teaching Fellowship. Currently, Mrs. Shearer is
pursuing her intermediate administrators certificate at Sacred Heart
University with an anticipate completion in May of 2012.
In the fall of 2003, Mrs. Shearer earned National Board Certification in
Early Adolescence/Young Adult Music. Mrs. Shearer has taught all levels of
instrumental music from elementary through high school.
From 1992 - 2003 she worked with the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony as an
associate conductor. With the CYWS, she conducted and performed on five
international tours. Mrs. Shearer is an active member of MENC and the
Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) having as the CMEA News
Editor from 2004-2009 and as the Southern Region High School Band Chair in
2011. In addition she has presented at CMEA (CT) and OMEA (Ohio)
state conferences and for the Milford Public Schools. Mrs. Shearer has been
with the Milford Public Schools Music Department since the fall of 2004.
As Director of Music at Joseph A. Foran High School, Mrs. Shearer's teaching
responsibilities include the Concert, Jazz, and Marching Bands as well as
courses in Music Theory, Music Technology, Guitar, and Piano. Mrs. Shearer
serves as co-advisor to the Tri-M Music Honor Society, the National Honor
Society, and the Drama Club.
The mission of the music program at Joseph A. Foran High School is to provide
students with an education in music that allows students to read, comprehend,
perform and appreciate music. It is our hope that students gain lifelong
skills for success through participation in music.
