HIGH SCHOOL OPERATING PROCEDURES


 Purpose of Summer School:
     To provide remedial courses for subjects in which students did not receive credit during the regular
      school year.

      Provide enrichment opportunities to students who would like to improve their skills in order to

      successfully complete courses during the subseqent school year.

Eligibility:   

     Only courses take during the previous school year may be taken for credit.

     To receive credit for a course taken in Summer School the student must have a minimum

     final grade of 50 in the regular school year course.

     The student must have been enrolled in the course at the end of the year for a full year course

     and at the end of the semester for a single semester course.

     The student must meet attendance requirements for the course.

     A student who does not meet the above criteria is not allowed to attend Summer School

     and must repeat that course during the next school year.

 Credits & Grading for an Entire Course Failed During the Regular School Year:
     Summer School Grades are Pass or Fail.
     If the Summer School Course is Passed the student will receive the credits for that course
     on the high school transcript.  GPA points are not awared.
     If a student fails the Summer School course or does not receive credit for the course due to
     a violation of the Summer School Attendance Policy or Code of Conduct, the student will
     not receive credit for the course.
     If the course is passed in Summer School the grade for the course will be noted as a PASS
     on the student's transcript.         
 Credits & Grading for the 4th Marking Period Course Make-up:
     A student who has earned an F, D-, D or D+ during the 4th Marking Period in a Regular
     Year course will be allowed to make-up the grade for the 4th Marking Period ONLY.
     The student may take only courses offered in Summer School.
     The student will attend the entire 5 week Summer School course in the subject but will
     only have the 4th Marking Period grade change upon successfully meeting the Summer School
     Grade Requirement.
     The student must earn a Summer School grade of at least a C- to have the 4th Marking
     Period grade changed.
     If the student earns a Summer School grade of a least a C-, a grade of C- will be substituted
     for the student's 4th Term grade strictly for the purpose of recalcuating the un-weighted
     4th Marking Period GPA.
    If a student does not earn a grade in the Summer School Course of at least a C- or
     violates the Summer School Attendance Policy or Code of Conduct, the student will not
     receive a grade for the course.
     The earned Summer School grade cannot be used in any way, to alter the Final Grade
     for the year in the Regular School Year course.

     Please register in person so that your GPA can be calculated to determine if the Summer

     School course will be beneficial.

 Credits & Grading for a Course in Which Credit Was Lost During the Regular School Year.
     If the student earns in Summer School, a grade that is at least equivalent to the grade earned
     in the regular school year course (plus and minus grades will be considered as part of the grade),
     the student will receive the credit, grade and the quality points for that grade and this information
     will apear on the student's transcript.
         For example, if the student earned a C+ in the regular school year course the student must
       earn at least a C+ in the Summer School course to be rewarded grade points.
     If the student does not earn a grade that is at least equivalent to the grade earned in the regular
     school year but does pass the Summer School course the student will receive only the credit
     for the course.
     If a student fails the Summer School course or does not receive credit for the course due to

     a violation of the Summer School Attendance Policy or Code of Conduct, the student will

     not receive credit nor grade points for the course.
 Transportation
     Parents are responsible for arranging transportation to and from school.
     City Transit bus passes can be purchased from Milford Summer School for the cost of $20
     per book for 20 rides. Upon successful complettion of the Summer School course
     these costs will be reimbursed to the students.
 Progress Reports
     A Progress Report for each student will be mailed to the students home approximately half way
     through the course.
     Please sign and return the Progress Report to the teacher.
 Notification of Summer School Grades
     Grade notification will be sent to the parents or guardians of the student and the appropriate
     school principal after the last day of Summer School.
