GREAT NEWS: The Connecticut Association of Schools Culture of Kindness Initiative has recognized Joseph A. Foran High School for their anti-bullying club, BEAST. Foran is one of only eight schools being recognized in Connecticut.

On May 16, BEAST was also presented with the 2012 Mayor’s Youth Award for outstanding service to the Milford community. The award is sponsored by Mayor Benjamin G. Blake and Milford Youth and Family Services. Congratulations to BEAST as well as Foran's Key Club and Interact Club, and the various Foran students who were also nominated for this prestigious award.

Shaina Arsenault was also awarded the Mayor's Youth Award. In addition to her academic excellence as an honors student at Foran, Shaina is a soloist with the New England Ballet Company and studies voice and piano. She is also a mentor for the Milford Merry Musical Theater Adaptive Program – a dance a theater program for special needs children.

CONGRATULATIONS: Foran student Brooke Phalen is under consideration for ESPN's Connecticut "Player of the Year" award, the most prestigious sports award for high schoolers! Brooke is a standout softball and volleyball player for the Lions.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

"The sole reason for the existence of our profession is the student."

Dear Parents:

As we spring ahead, I am already concerned about student focus and safety. With spring sports and activities upon us it is only natural to relish free time outdoors and away from adult supervision. Although this is a healthy and appropriate response to longer days and warmer weather it does not diminish the need to continue ones hard work in school or obligation to consider the consequences of reckless behavior and choice of friends. I know that along with you, the teachers, coaches and advisors often try to instill this vision of responsible behavior. Please spend time in the near future with your child(ren) discussing the excitement and opportunity of this time of year along with the need to remain steadfast in their studies and responsibilities all the while being vigilant toward safety and good decision making. Remember that, “Champions don't become champions when they win the event. They become champions in the hours, weeks, and months preparing for the event." (Boston College, Athletic Department)

Senior Portraits!!
Photographer schedule for Senior Portraits
Appointment cards and package information will be mailed home from the school photographer- Prestige Lifetouch Portraits. If a student cannot make the set appointment they may come and wait in line when they are available or they may call for another appointment. Portraits will be taken June 25, June 26, June 27 8:30-2:00 in the auditorium at J. A. Foran High School. A sitting fee of $20 is collected and can be refunded when the proofs are returned to Lifetouch. The next round of appointments will be July 30, July 31, August 1, August 2 8:30-2:00. Final photographs will be taken September 4, 5, 6 & 7 from 2:00-8:00. The earlier the picture is taken the greater the opportunity for retakes. Any questions can be directed to Ms Uchaczyk, Soundings Advisor at luchaczyk@milforded.org.

AUP Signoff Required The Milford Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) must be signed by both student and parent. Students who have not signed the AUP have had their school computer accounts and Powerschool access disabled. If your student has not signed the AUP, please have them pick up a hard copy form in the main office or call 203-783-3502 and the information will be mailed to your home address.

Athletics Training Summer 2012 Football Training for the 2012-13 school year will begin on August 15, 2012. Boys & Girls Cross Country, Boys & Girls Soccer, Girls Swimming, and Volleyball will start on August 25, 2012.

Paw Points Program

Paw Points are given to any student who goes above and beyond without being asked. Students are nominated by faculty and staff using a Paw Points ticket. Tickets are deposited into a jar in the Main Office and winners are drawn at the end of each month. These are the Paw Point winners for 2011-2012.
